About

León is a provincial capital in Castilla y León, about 459 km from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on the Camino Francés.

The Camino uses the historic centre. Beyond the city the route continues toward Astorga.

On the Camino Francés

León is the second of the great cities on this Castilian stretch. The cathedral of Santa María de Regla, the collegiate church of San Isidoro, and the San Marcos building give the centre its Camino profile — a gothic cathedral, a Romanesque church, and a former pilgrim hospital shown here as a monument.

West of León the Francés continues toward Astorga. East of it, the previous published place is Mansilla de las Mulas. Those spans are place-to-place distances along the certified line, not a suggested day’s walk.

Through the city

Municipal Camino pages follow the walk through the historic centre toward the cathedral, then on toward San Isidoro and San Marcos at the edge of that centre. The Roman walls still mark the old perimeter.

The next CaminoFinder place is Astorga. Distances on this page are place-to-place spans, not walking days.

Pilgrim information

The tourist information office is at Plaza de Regla 2, beside the cathedral. Confirm current hours on the spot; they are not listed here.
