Getting to A Coruña
A Coruña is the other Camino Inglés start published by CaminoFinder. It is not Ferrol. The two approaches remain separate until they meet later on the route.
A Coruña has its own airport (Alvedro), a main railway station and a bus station. Santiago-Rosalía de Castro is a second air gateway. The walking start is in the historic centre, not at the airport or San Cristóbal station.
Getting there
By air
Alvedro (LCG) is the city’s airport. Aena lists an Alsa airport–city bus. Taxi is also described by the official city tourism page. Check Aena and Alsa for the service on your day.
Santiago-Rosalía de Castro (SCQ) is an additional gateway. Aena lists a Monbus coach from that airport toward A Coruña’s bus station. You can also reach Santiago’s intermodal station and continue by Renfe medium-distance trains.
By train
Renfe’s A Coruña station — San Cristóbal, on Avenida del Ferrocarril — has long-distance and medium-distance services. Galicia’s official Camino portal also records medium-distance trains between Santiago and A Coruña. Check Renfe for whether a given train runs on your date.
The station is not the walking start. Official city tourism notes a local bus, a taxi, or a walk into the centre.
By bus
A Coruña has a bus station with national, international and regional coaches. Official city tourism names operators including ALSA, Monbus and Arriva among those serving the city. Check the operator for the day you travel. Galicia’s Camino portal also records coaches between Santiago and A Coruña.
Before you go
- Keep this start separate from Ferrol. Shared regional transport does not merge the two Camino Inglés beginnings.
- The Xunta walking start is the Igrexa de Santiago in the historic centre, inland from the port and the Tower of Hercules.
Credential & Compostela
CaminoFinder’s certified walk from A Coruña to Santiago is about 72.9 km. That is below the Pilgrim Office’s ordinary 100 km walking-distance figure.
A still-published 2016 Cabildo agreement allows the Compostela for certain pilgrims from A Coruña: those who have already walked part of the Camino in their country or region of origin and then continue on foot from the port, and inhabitants of A Coruña and its surroundings who walk devotionis causa. The Office’s current general requirements page does not restate that arrangement. Check your own circumstances with the official authorities before you start.
Carry a Pilgrim Credential. In A Coruña, a Cathedral-authorized source is the Iglesia de Santiago, Parrote 1. Confirm current opening on the official list — this page does not publish hours, prices, or availability.
In Santiago, the Pilgrim Office issues the Compostela in person. Stamp rules and other requirements are on the Office pages.
