Getting to Sarria

Sarria is a major joining point on the Camino Francés. CaminoFinder’s mapped Francés still begins in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and ends in Santiago. Many pilgrims join here for the last stretch; that does not make Sarria the start of the route.

Sarria has a Renfe station in town. It has no airport of its own. The useful air gateway is Santiago-Rosalía de Castro. Official Galician Camino guidance treats Lugo and Santiago as the reference cities for coaches toward Sarria.

Getting there

By train

Renfe’s Sarria station is on Rúa Ramón Cabanillas, with medium-distance and long-distance services. Galicia’s official Camino portal notes that some long-distance trains serving Ferrol and A Coruña also call at Sarria, which can help pilgrims arriving via Madrid or Barcelona — if that train stops. Check Renfe; not every Galicia long-distance service does.

The station is in the town, not a mountain trailhead. You still need a short local move to the Camino streets.

By bus

Official Galician Camino guidance names Lugo and Santiago as the coach reference cities for reaching Sarria, and records a Lugo–Sarria bus-station relationship. Check current services on the Galicia planner or Monbus.

By air

Fly to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro (SCQ), then continue by rail or coach. Aena’s listed airport buses from SCQ include a city line into Santiago and Monbus routes toward Lugo, A Coruña and Sobrado. Sarria is not named on that Aena list, so CaminoFinder does not claim a direct airport coach to Sarria. Confirm the last mile with the operator.

Before you go

  • This page is not a Compostela rules page. Cathedral eligibility is explained on the Sarria place guide.
  • Do not assume every long-distance train through Galicia stops at Sarria.
